There are a lot of good folks out there, who could use some help. And there are a lot of good folks out there, who want to help. FriendsGiving began as an evening of friends, brought together by Derek and Melissa Guffey. These friends have grown up together, gone through good times and tough times together, and have always been there to support each other through it all. Now, these friends want to help others, who could use some help to get them through a tough situation, and find comfort and hope for their future.
The idea behind FriendsGiving was based on an event that was started back in the Mid 1980’s by Hersh Robinson, Derek’s grandfather. For more than two decades, the Robinson Family and Friends Square Dance brought friends and family together each year to celebrate life and love. Although we no longer square dance, the FriendsGiving HoeDown was created to rekindle that same spirit but extend the impact that love and charity can have towards those in need. And why not have a BLAST doing it?!?
Who We’re Helping
“Indy Urban Acres, a project of the The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis, is a collection of four organic farms used to empower and educate people by providing equitable access to free, high quality produce. Since 2011, Indy Urban Acres has grown into a multi-disciplinary farm that works to inspire transformational change within Indy’s food system by providing food justness for low-income families, educating thousands of youth through tours and farm-to-plate workshops, providing community engagement to thousands of volunteers and groups, and teaching teens valuable job skills.“
